All-Abilities Playground at Ascarate Park

In partnership with El Paso County, MOB successfully revitalized Ascarate Park with the unveiling of the region’s largest all-abilities playground. The playground officially opened on May 2024, following six years of planning, fundraising, and community support.

What began as a small effort by two El Paso mothers to add shade to public parks grew into a community-wide movement. Thousands of parents came together with the shared goal of improving the quality of life for children across the region. With the support of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, MOB turned its vision into reality.

The new all-abilities playground was designed to accommodate individuals of all abilities and ages. It includes three swing sets, slides, monkey bars, wheelchair-accessible surfaces and sensory play elements.

This playground is the third and largest of its kind in El Paso County and represents a significant step toward inclusive play. It supports the healthy development of children’s physical, cognitive, social, and sensory skills, while also providing accessible opportunities for grandparents, veterans, and individuals with mobility challenges.

Ascarate Park now stands as a welcoming, inclusive space—and a key part of a broader vision to make El Paso a regional destination for accessible recreation.
