Moms On Board Organization Working with County to Revitalize Ascarate Park

A local parents organization, Moms On Board, is working with El Paso County to create a new atmosphere there.

"I think Ascarate is a perfect place for it to be held," said Adrianne Moody, co-founder of Moms On Board. “It's right by the hospitals and it's centrally located, and who doesn't love Ascarate?"

On Monday, the organization presented an idea to county commissioners to create an all-inclusive park.

"All-inclusive is, you know, about 10 steps ahead of ADA compliant, and it incorporates all children to play together through all walks of life,” Moody said. “This a project that we're pretty passionate about and pretty excited about."

Some of the amenities the organization is envisioning to include are a demonstration garden, training center, train rides and sensory tunnels, just to name a few.

"I think it's important to bring to every city,” said Moody. “We've been doing a lot of research, and this type of park is all over the U.S.”

During the presentation, she told commissioners, phase one of the project rings in at about $2.4 million, an amount they’ll try to raise funds to meet.

"So, I think everyone is going to get behind this in the community and jump on board with us, and we're excited to make it a community effort,” Moody said.

Commissioners directed staff to consider a contract with Moms On Board.

El Pasoans we spoke with said their vision is something they can get behind.

"Ascarate has, you know, been needing something like that for quite a while now,” said El Paso resident Mike Neria.

"I think it would be a great opportunity for all of the families of El Paso,” said El Paso resident Jesus Villanueva.
